Christmas is a time for you to be selfish! Said no one ever. It actually feels wrong to even say it.
I have to admit, Christmas is my favourite time of year despite the craziness, however now with toddlers, babies and the demands of the festive season, it is a touch… extreme.
“Muuuuuuuum I WANT a Spy Chaaaaaaase! Muuuuuuuuuuum I neeeeeeeeeeed a Rubble Dog!”
Aggravating much?! Selfish much?! How about I join in?!
“Mummy wants a holidaaaaaaay. Pleeeeeeeease I neeeeeeeeed a magazine!!!!!”
That’s allowed right? Wrong. We are the parents. We are meant to be perfect. We must make everyone else happy around us at all times. Feeding grapes to young royalty right? WRONG!
How about we remember our christmas wish?! How about we remember what we would really like from Santa? Then, lets selfishly give it to ourselves.
Mine was…a whole day to myself.
So last week I decided to do it. I selfishly undertook this important task and you know what?…it was A.M.A.Z.I.N.G!
Just me, all by myself. In bed.
Please take part in a moment of silence.
It was lovely.
And you know what? I’m now more present, able to give, love and enjoy the festive season. I now even have the energy to address the Santa list and the thousands of demands the young ones have.
It’s basically thanks to selfishness. My selfishness gave me perspective and I’ve since been teaching the young ones the true meaning of Christmas and can you believe it…how to be less selfish! How ironic?!
So now I make no apologies in bringing you this Christmas cheer from one parent to another:
Tis the season to be selfish! Enjoy!
